Brook House Patch
1979- 1982 there was only one night for young Mods on the Isle of Wight & that was a Tuesday night!!
First it was held at Ryde Queen-Disco on a paddle steamer, however the potholed unmade road down to “The Boat” & scooters with 6 Volt lighting were not a good mix!
So, it moved to Brook House just outside Ryde in Binstead & for young Mods getting into this re-found scene, it became our mecca.
Most of us rode our scooters there, back when the legal drinking limit was about 2 pints! and some nights there were up to 40 scooters lined-up, which was most of the ridden scooters on the Island then.
The DJ was local man Dave Cannon who played mostly sixties hits & Tamla Motown. On the turntable every week for sure, would have been “Baby Love ““All Day & all of the Night ““Wooly Bully “& “My Generation “
It was all about checking out the scooters, what everybody was wearing & the dancing, we all loved it!
I have made a cloth patch using the original image scanned from the hand drawn poster that advertised the night, which I “borrowed” from behind the entrance counter one night in 81", while the bouncers were busy with a punch up in the car park! Recently re-discovered in my mum's garage.
